Large group insurance applies to businesses with 50 or more employees. These businesses are typically required to provide their employees insurance, and must adhere to strict guidelines when doing so. The offered health plan must provide essential benefits that cover at least 60% of their employees’ medical expenses. The employee must also be able to afford the plan, which means that the employee should not pay more than 9.86% of his/her household income towards the premium. Note: In some states, large group insurance only applies to business with 100 or more employees.
Small group insurance, by contrast, applies to businesses with 49 or fewer employees. For businesses of this size, providing employee health insurance is not required. However, we would heavily encourage it in order to maintain competitiveness and show employees that their needs outside of the workplace aren’t being overlooked.
Group health insurance is crucial for your employees. Not providing it means subjecting them to the reality of individual insurance, which offers less coverage at higher prices. In the most extreme cases, it could even mean your employees go without insurance entirely, which discourages them from going to the doctor for needed healthcare…
Offering group health as an employee benefit isn’t just the right thing to do. It also boosts productivity by keeping your employees happy and healthy!
Altura Benefits has relationships with all of the major health insurance carriers, which means you’re sure to get the best rates, whether you have 1 employee or 10,000.
